How Do Bi+ Mothers’ Talk with Their Children about (Their) Bisexuality+?

Whereas a great deal is known about lesbian/gay parent families, much less bi+ mother especially relating to the ways mothers discuss their bisexuality+ with children. This article explores conversations and queer socialization in families. Semi-structured interviews were conducted online 29 mothers, each interview lasting one two hours. Mothers asked whether they had discussed child(ren), reasoning for wanting sexuality how broached topic, used any resources, child(ren) reacted. Interviews analyzed using thematic analysis, informed by prior literature on cultural disclosure. Analysis revealed that adopted various strategies approaches discussing children, which often child-focused based consideration of children’s developmental abilities. Bi+ also engaged practices, such as socialization, preparation bias, mainstream socialization. The theoretical empirical implications this research are discussed, well practical implications, providing support Directions future identified.
